Abstract:

The rapid advancement of semiconductor technology has driven

innovations in energy-efficient electronics, addressing the increasing

demand for low-power devices. This lecture provides an overview of

current trends and challenges in the semiconductor industry,

emphasizing the critical need for steep-slope devices to overcome

the limitations of conventional transistors. Steep-slope devices, such

as Tunneling Field-Effect Transistors (TFETs) and Negative

Capacitance Field-Effect Transistors (NCFETs), represent promising

solutions by enabling subthreshold slope (SS) values below the

Boltzmann limit.

The lecture will explore the operating principles, design

methodologies, and unique characteristics of these advanced

devices. In addition, recent research findings on the fabrication and

performance of steep-slope devices based on 2D van der Waals

materials will be presented, highlighting their potential applications

in next-generation low-power electronics. This talk aims to provide

attendees with both a comprehensive understanding of the field and

insights into emerging technologies shaping the future of

semiconductor innovation.
